November 19, 2009 – A rematch between Concordes Saint (TB) and Chocolate Mountain is set over 870 yards in the $60,000 King Rick Rack Stakes on Sunday afternoon at Zia Park.
Both horses come out of the Sandia Handicap at The Downs at Albuquerque, a race in which 14-1 longshot Concordes Saint (TB) (Silver Saint-Concordes Dreamer by Mr Dreamer) ran past 5-2 shot Chocolate Mountain (Panther Mountain-Tieshas Special by Proudest Effort) in the stretch.
Howard Peterson’s homebred Concordes Saint had been racing against Thoroughbreds at longer distances before trainer Henry Dominguez placed him in the Sandia Handicap on October 27. The sophomore gelding responded with a two-wide move through the lane to win by two lengths.
Lewis Dillree’s homebred Chocolate Mountain set the pace in the Sandia Handicap before being caught by Concordes Saint and settling for second place. Chocolate Mountain had won three consecutive 870-yard races –all at Sunland Park last spring – before his defeat. His winning streak was capped by a win in the Getaway Stakes for trainer Wes Giles.
